Introduction of Sniffer Probe:
The sniffer probe is a sampling device used for close-range localization and detection of helium leaks on workpiece surfaces. Featuring a unique pinhole structure and capillary tubing, it delivers exceptionally high sensitivity ( 5×10⁻⁹ Pa·m³/s) and rapid response. It is compatible with various leak detectors, and its detachable tip facilitates easy cleaning. With a standard length typically ranging from 2.5 to 5 meters, its core function is to draw in leaking helium and deliver it to the leak detector, enabling precise localization of leak points.
Function of Sniffer Probe:
Precise Leak Localization:
The operator holds the sniffer probe and moves its probe 1-2 mm above the workpiece surface. When passing a leak point, escaping helium is drawn into the sniffer probe.
The leak detector immediately generates a signal (audible alarm or pointer/digital display). By identifying the position of the strongest signal, millimeter-level precise localization of the leak point is achieved.
Non-Destructive Testing:
Unlike the "spray method" which requires filling the workpiece with helium, the sniffer method is an external detection technique. It detects helium leaking from the interior of the workpiece to the atmosphere, making it non-destructive to the workpiece itself. This makes it highly suitable for online inspection and on-site maintenance.
Applicability to Pressure Vessels and Complex Systems:
For pressure vessels already filled with helium or helium mixtures (e.g., air conditioning refrigeration systems, automotive fuel tanks, engine components), the sniffer method is a standard and effective way to detect external leaks.
Enhanced Detection Safety:
Compared to the spray probe, the sniffer method uses passive sampling and does not add helium to the environment. This avoids the potential risk of oxygen deficiency in confined spaces due to helium accumulation.
